In the Music Department, we aim to inspire every learner to become creative, curious, and appreciative of a diverse range of musical genres. Through music, students develop teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving skills as they practise, refine, and improve their performances. They also gain an understanding of the historical, social, and
cultural contexts that shape the music they study.
Music is both a rewarding and challenging subject that encourages perseverance, communication, confidence, creativity, and critical thinking. Through performing, composing, and listening, students develop fine motor skills through instrumental performance, computing skills through the use of music technology, and the ability to
evaluate and respond thoughtfully to the music they encounter both inside and outside the classroom.
Our curriculum provides enriching musical experiences through the study of a broad range of styles, traditions, and cultures. We are committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to learn and perform on an instrument within the classroom, enabling them to leave school with a lifelong appreciation of music and the confidence to continue engaging with it beyond their education.
