The Drama Department at Preston School Academy gives students the opportunity to make, perform and respond to drama by exposing them to different theatrical styles and genres of performance. Students are encouraged to communicate their viewpoints on different subject matters and issues in society through their engagement with different forms of stimuli. We aim to provide students with the skills to develop their confidence, leadership, communication, creativity, cooperation (collaboration), organisation (problem-solving), and critical thinking, all of which are key in helping to shape our students into emotionally intelligent, well-rounded individuals who are confident to explore and question the world around them.
We aim to build these qualities in our students through engaging and creative practical and theory lessons that encourage students to challenge themselves to master the skills needed at GCSE and beyond. We aim to inspire students to reach beyond their potential, both through classroom learning and through extracurricular activities that will inform their understanding and knowledge of a range of theatrical forms, styles and conventions. Students will learn to collaborate with others, think analytically and evaluate effectively. They will gain the confidence to pursue their own ideas, reflect and refine their efforts before demonstrating their knowledge and skills in practice.
