In Modern Foreign Languages, we want our students to have a happy and successful learning experience. Developing students into enthusiastic and resilient learners is at the core of all we do.
Our aims within the Modern Foreign Languages curriculum are to:
• Create successful lifelong linguists who enjoy their learning, make rapid progress and achieve excellence.
• Equip all students with the detailed knowledge and linguistic skills required to thrive and succeed in language learning and prepare them for the world of work (particularly with a multi-national employer such as Leonardo Helicopters in our town).
• Inspire students (particularly the disadvantaged and those with SEND) with quality first teaching, broaden their awareness of other countries and communities and provide opportunities for participation in a wide range of linguistic and cultural educational experiences.
• Encourage students to engage with, understand and respond creatively to a variety of sources through speaking and writing.
• Develop communication skills and broaden knowledge of vocabulary and grammar in both the target and native languages by having a carefully planned and sequenced progression through our curriculum with content and skills clearly defined in our schemes of work which revisit and build on existing knowledge.
• Build student cultural capital by promoting cross-cultural literacy within students and introducing them to a wide range of knowledge which goes beyond their own cultural experience and sets them up as global citizens.
