Pupil Premium

About the Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools by the government to help improve the education of pupils who may be disadvantaged. It is allocated to students who are, or have been, eligible for free school meals in the last six years, children in care, and those with parents serving in the armed forces. At secondary level, schools use this funding to provide extra support, resources, and opportunities aimed at removing barriers to learning and ensuring every pupil can achieve their full potential. Preston School is committed to supporting all of our pupil premium students.

Our Pupil Premium Strategy

At Preston School, our Pupil Premium strategy is built on three guiding principles: equity, ambition, and consistency. We aim to use the funding not as an add-on, but as an integral part of our whole-school approach to teaching, learning, and support. Through robust assessment, targeted interventions, and ongoing review, we will prioritise actions that research shows deliver the greatest impact — such as high-quality feedback, small-group tuition, and structured mentoring. We will also foster strong links between academic, pastoral, and enrichment programmes, making sure that every Pupil Premium student benefits holistically, whether academically, socially or emotionally. Regular review and transparent reporting will ensure accountability and continual refinement, so our strategy remains responsive to students’ evolving needs and helps us steadily close gaps in progress and opportunity.

Our Pupil Premium Provision

At Preston School, we believe every student—regardless of background—deserves the opportunity to thrive and succeed. The Pupil Premium funding allows us to provide targeted, high-impact support to students who face economic, social, or other barriers to learning. This document outlines how we will use that funding to bolster literacy and numeracy interventions, offer enhanced pastoral care, improve access to extra-curricular and enrichment activities, provide essential equipment and uniform support, and foster strong partnerships with families. Our aim is to close the attainment gap, raise aspirations, and ensure that all Pupil Premium students receive the tailored support and encouragement they need to fulfil their potential.
