Sport

We are delighted to offer a wealth of sporting opportunities at Preston, including competing at a high level in a number of areas.

Football

Our boys’ football club runs weekly and is open to students of all abilities. Training focuses on developing technical skills, tactical awareness, and teamwork through a mixture of drills and match play. The team competes in the Somerset County Cup and the Yeovil Schools League, providing regular opportunities for competitive matches throughout the season. We are also proud to offer a progression pathway, where talented players may be recommended to trial for Yeovil District and Somerset representative teams.

Our girls’ football club continues to grow, welcoming students of all experience levels. Sessions are fun, inclusive, and focus on skill development, match awareness, and building confidence in a supportive environment. The girls’ team also takes part in the Somerset County Cup and the Yeovil Schools League, competing regularly with local schools. Just like the boys, talented players may be selected to trial for Yeovil District and Somerset representative squads as part of our player development pathway.

Netball

Our netball club welcomes all pupils interested in developing their skills and understanding of the game. We train all year round, with weekly sessions that focus on movement, passing accuracy, positioning, and tactical play in a fun and supportive environment. Students have the opportunity to represent the school in friendly matches and competitive fixtures, including the Yeovil Area Cup, where we play against other local schools.

We are proud of the talent and commitment shown by our players. Several students have progressed to play for Yeovil Netball Club, and one of our former pupils has gone on to join the Team Bath Advanced Development Centre—an exciting pathway toward elite-level netball.

Rugby

The after-school rugby club is open to all abilities, providing coaching in safe tackling, passing, and positional play. Students develop both individual and team-based skills in a supportive environment. Fixtures are played regularly against local schools and beyond, including participation in festivals and inter-school competitions throughout the year.

We also offer regular opportunities for students to link with local clubs, including Yeovil Rugby Club and Sherborne Rugby Club, helping them continue their development outside of school. Emphasis is placed on sportsmanship, respect, and resilience both on and off the field.

The Gym

The gym club offers students the opportunity to improve their overall fitness and well-being through structured and varied sessions. Activities include circuit training, strength exercises, core workouts, and age-appropriate weight training, all delivered in a safe and supervised environment.

Students attending gym club have full access to our high-quality fitness facilities, which include a leg press, assault air bikes, cable machines, and curve treadmills. These resources allow for a diverse and engaging workout experience tailored to different fitness levels and goals.

It’s a positive and inclusive space where students of all abilities are supported to set personal fitness goals, challenge themselves, and build confidence in physical activity. Whether training for a specific sport or simply aiming to get fitter, the gym club encourages healthy habits and personal growth.
