NO.10 Middle School, is located in Yeuyang City of the Hunan Province. NO.10 was founded in July 1985, it is a public school for compulsory education.

There are 36 classes with 2279 students and 142 teaching staff.

The values that guide their work is ‘everything for students’ future development’. They believe that teachers should not only give students knowledge and to develop their ability, but also to help them acquire a healthy mentality and personality.

H’Mount Sinai Senior Secondary School (HSSHS) is located in the eastern region of Ghana, approximately 90 minutes drive from Accra in a town called Akropong Akuapem. HSSHS is co educational school that consists of approximately 1,500 students, aged 13-18, of which 600 students are boarders.

1. Purpose

To promote an interest and curiosity about the wider world and a sense of European/International identify, to raise awareness of being a global citizen.

  • To encourage a respect and an understanding for other cultures, heritage and multilingualism.
  • To prepare all pupils to participate in the democratic processes at national and international level.
  • Encourage the development of links with other countries.
  • Encourage an enthusiasm for learning languages and an awareness of the benefits to be gained.
  • Provide a meaningful context for the use of ICT.

2. Rationale

Current practice

  • Identifying/reviewing areas of current practice that include an international theme.
  • Identifying/reviewing internal and external resources, both material and human.

The Curriculum (learning about)

  • Integrating the international dimension into the whole curriculum by raising awareness of appropriate curriculum links.
  • Developing an awareness of similarities and differences in lifestyle and culture in a range of other countries.
  • Enabling all pupils to participate in international activities.
  • Developing attitudes to common issues of interest and concern to young people (e.g. environment, citizenship).

The Curriculum (learning with)

  • Involving teachers, non-teaching staff, pupils, governors, parents and the wider community in a wide range of contacts with other countries.
  • Developing different ways of communicating with other countries and taking advantage of communication technology.
  • Developing opportunities to challenge prejudice, stereotypes and xenophobic attitudes.

3. Management and Professional Development

  • Identifying appropriate members of staff and governors to implement and co-ordinate the international dimension in the school.
  • Making use of external and internal programmes for staff development.
  • Using links/visits to enhance teacher development.
  • Disseminating within the school the experiences gained from such links/visits.

  • Allocating appropriate provision from within the school’s own resources.
  • Using external resource organisations and funding programmes to further policy aims.
  • Gathering appropriate international resources of all kinds and making them available to staff and pupils.
  • Investigating external organisations and programmes to support achieving the aims.

5. Linking to other Policies

  • Identifying and integrating other school policies that can involve an international dimension, i.e. citizenship, race equality, work-related education, special and individual needs, health education and equal opportunities.

6. Assessment, Monitoring, Recording and Reporting

Success judged by:

  • The motivation and interest displayed by pupils.
  • The development of pupils' understanding of other cultures.
  • The development of communication skills.
  • Assessment and monitoring guiding future planning and shaping of practice.
  • Evidence of work retained and reviewed.
  • Impact of any links on all parties.
  • Regular reports to governors, the governor responsible, parents and the whole school through written and oral reports.


There will be an annual review to ensure sustainability and development.

7. Specific International Aims

By promoting the International Dimension across all aspects of school life it is our aim:

  • to enrich our pupils’ education through providing a broad range of international experiences across the whole school curriculum (including extra curricular activities)
  • to foster a sense of an “international identity” across the whole school community through understanding and appreciating the concept of being a ‘global citizenship’
  • to respect and to value races and cultures different from our own
  • to promote more positive attitudes towards other cultures across the whole school community
  • to enable pupils to communicate with different races and cultures across the world through the use of modern information technology.

Pupils will be given the opportunities to :

  • gain the ability to make informed perceptions of other cultures and societies
  • foster an awareness of their own culture and society and challenge their own ideas and judgements
  • raise their awareness of global issues concerning the environment, development, sustainability and interdependence of trade and give them a sense of ownership of decision-making at a global level
  • become competent and confident global citizens with a sense of achievement
  • be encouraged to develop their communication skills through the enhanced use of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT).

We believe that developing international links will:

  • further enrich the ethos of the school
  • contribute to the achievement of high standards of attainment for all pupils and teachers
  • offer a vehicle to support school improvement related activities
  • raise the profile of the school in the local community
  • assist pupils in their career decision-making

8. Monitoring Evaluation and Review

The school will review this policy annually and assess its implementation and effectiveness. The policy will be promoted and implemented throughout the school.




Yeovil is the largest town in South Somerset, with a population approaching 45000, Yeovil serves as a major industrial and retail centre, serving a region of almost 150000 people.


Yeovil was founded in the 8th century. The Village of Yeovil grew into a town – by the time of the Domesday Book (1086) it was a flourishing community with a population of 1,000.
During the 1800s Yeovil was a centre of the glove making industry.


Yeovil is home to several companies with 500 employees or more. A lot of industry has developed around the needs of the Augusta Westland Helicopter company and the nearby Naval Air Base RNAS Yeovilton. Some other major employers include Software Company Aerosystems International and Screwfix, the online DIY store.


Yeovil Town football club is the only team in Somerset that is in the Football League, competing in the Championship, after winning the play-off final on 19 May 2013.
